Re:living Fund
Re:living fund (a project by Re:direct, formerly Pensions for change) addresses the housing crisis in Belgium by counteracting the financialization of real estate. It acts as an orchestrator, developing a private debt fund designed to provide stable, low-return investment opportunities for institutional investors (e.g., pension funds) while financing systemic alternatives like Community Land Trusts and housing cooperatives. The strategy involves a two-phase execution: a grant-funded pilot incubated within ImpaktEU to de-risk the model, followed by a scaled €50–100M self-sustaining fund.
Systemic Lenses (Impact Approach)
Ecological The fund promotes sustainable living by prioritizing energy-efficient housing and including metrics for energy consumption per person, explicitly favoring shared occupancy models.
Economic It intervenes directly in financial flows by creating an institutional-grade vehicle that redirects capital from speculative real estate toward regenerative models, ensuring land value appreciation benefits the community.
Social The investment criteria prioritize intergenerational and inclusive housing that fosters social cohesion and strengthens informal care networks, addressing the intersection of the housing and care crises.
Narrative / Belief The project aims to shift the dominant narrative by redefining housing as “social infrastructure” rather than a financial asset and positioning pension funds as agents of systemic change.
