The Quipar Valley Initiative
The Quipar Valley initiative is a place-based ecosystem focused on the landscape-scale regeneration of a 30,000-hectare watershed in Murcia, Spain, a region highly vulnerable to desertification. The project operates through a constellation of entities: a demonstration farm (La Junquera), a non-profit educational hub (Regeneration Academy), a for-profit operator (Campeasi S.L.), and a scaling vehicle (RAAP!). By simultaneously addressing ecological health, economic resilience, and social empowerment, it aims to create a replicable model for reversing rural depopulation and environmental collapse in Mediterranean drylands.
Systemic Lenses (Impact Approach)
Ecological The initiative directly restores a 30,000-hectare watershed by reviving the Quipar River, improving soil health, and increasing biodiversity, using the La Junquera farm as a living laboratory.
Economic It builds resilient rural economies by developing business models for regenerative products (e.g., almond-based goods), fostering youth entrepreneurship, and implementing payments for ecosystem services.
Social The project empowers the local community through a participatory governance structure (Territorial Agreement) and comprehensive educational programs that build local capacity and social capital.
Narrative / Belief A core goal is to shift the cultural narrative from rural decline and extraction to stewardship and regeneration, reconnecting people to the land through demonstration and education.
