Casa UMU Belgium-Ghana
Casa UMU is a hybrid organization addressing the “modern disconnection” driving the global polycrisis. It integrates a network of physical, regenerative spaces for retreats (Casa UMU Belgium and a planned expansion to Ghana) with a purpose-driven venture studio (UMU) that develops tangible products like high-fidelity speakers and artisanal chocolate. Operating under a steward-ownership model to legally lock in its mission, it aims to shift cultural narratives from extraction to regeneration by fostering deep sensory reconnection and “stillness.”
Systemic Lenses (Impact Approach)
Ecological The project implements regenerative design by renovating physical spaces with natural materials (e.g., lime hemp, straw roofs) in Belgium and plans an eco-village in Ghana using nature-based construction.
Economic It challenges the extractive economy through a steward-ownership model that reinvests wealth into the mission and a venture studio that creates products to fund social initiatives, such as a music school in Ghana.
Social Casa UMU actively fosters “North-South reciprocity” and co-creation, partnering with local leaders (e.g., in Akosombo) to ensure development is grounded in solidarity rather than colonial dynamics.
Narrative / Belief The core intervention is shifting the belief system from “acceleration and consumption” to “connection and stillness,” using beauty and sensory experiences to cultivate an inner state of being that drives external change.

Learning by doing only works if you share what you experience. Systemic change happens inside and out, that’s why we share the stories of our projects, explorers, learnings, impact makers as one unfolding new narrative.
