3. A systemic lens: ownership through the iceberg
The iceberg of the current ownership paradigm:
Steward ownership intervenes at the bottom, rewriting the mental models that hold the rest in place.
Steward ownership intervenes at the deeper layers. It does not merely add “impact” to the current system but redesigns the operating logic, opening the door for larger shifts:
- From extraction rights to responsibility: Ownership becomes responsibility for continuity, purpose, and relationships.
- From capital-driven control to purpose-driven control: The central question becomes: who should have power, and why?
- From exit logic to continuity logic: Companies are not built primarily to be sold, but to endure.
- From unlimited accumulation to enough: “How much is enough?” becomes part of the structure.
